Celebration of our Project

On 7th October, we held a wonderful event with invited guests to celebrate the official end of the conservation work in and around the church. We were honoured by the presence of the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Professor Elizabeth Barnes, CBE and other distinguished guests including Lord and Lady Harrowby and Sir Gavin Williamson MP.

We heard about the history of the church and an introduction to the project from Ken Pemberton, Chair of the Heritage Committee, the funding from Janet Dawson, PCC Treasurer, the overview of the work from Neil Nightingale, Director of Lang Conservation Ltd, and the detail of the conservation approach to the wall paintings, monuments and the Charles II Royal Coat of Arms. Elizabeth Jarrett, church warden and the Lifelong Learning Lead for the Heritage Committee gave an overview of the amazing activities programme that had run during the delivery phase of the project and continues to the end of the year and beyond. A well deserved round of applause was given to recognise the exceptional contribution of our volunteers to the activities and the project overall. Glyn Morgan, member of the Midlands and East Committee of The National Lottery Heritage Fund gave an overview of the project from the Committee’s perspective and acknowledged the hard work and effort that was required to deliver projects of this complexity.

The Reverend Prebendary Catherine Brumfitt, Rural Dean gave a wonderful blessing to the project, the teams and the church.
